How do the photographs differ from previous family sessions you have had?
Spending time with Niki was so easy - we didn't need to pick matching outfits, stress about hairstyles ,or posing for pictures. In truth, during the day we often forgot she was there as we went through our normal routine and motions. She made us so comfortable that saying that she became "a fly on the wall" is an understatement. And those moments were where we totally let go, and just allowed her to see us as we truly are, produced the most beautiful and emotional images.
You specifically, are very easy to be around, surprisingly ninja-like (which I didn't realize until after you sent the images and I was blown away by all the different angles and perspectives you captured; but it never felt like you were doing acrobatics around us!), and just made the whole thing very comfortable.
What is the best thing about the photos?
Her images showed every side of us - from the raw, to the loving, to the free, to the hurt and everything in between. Sometimes when you are just living your daily life, you don't even realize how strong you are as a parent to fit so much emotion into a single day, but Niki was able to highlight it all for us. It helped to remind us that we really are present and creating something special and unique for our little family. It also helped us also remember just how much beauty and joy is packed into a single day.
Have you printed your images?
Niki created true art for us, which is hanging in our house, and since I couldn't choose favorites, I also made a coffee table table book from her images. She also made a stunning slide show that to this day makes me tear up every time I watch it. I love how she put the video together into a story and how I could watch threads through each image that visually tied them together with the one before and the one afterwards. We didn't know the music but are now big fans!
How did the rest of the family find the experience?
I would recommend Niki without reservation and hesitation for any family, on any path. Even my husband, who can find dressing up and posing for family pictures tiresome, found the experience with Niki to be extremely easy and comfortable. She just slid right into our day, and let everything unfold with a quiet and easy presence.
