PERFECTION OVER-RATED
Dave Grohl says a lot of thought provoking things …
“…imperfection creates beautiful things and it actually gives way to progress …..”
“I think this is very important for all musicians to know and understand that there’s no use in trying to sound like someone else. So you should accept and celebrate your own voice. This is what’s going to make you different than everybody else. So it’s one of the problems I have with watching television shows where people are judging and criticizing other people’s singing because that’s not fair.
I always make the joke. Imagine if Bob Dylan got up and sang, ‘Blowin’ In the Wind’ in front of Jennifer Lopez, I don’t really know if he’d win that one, you know. But look, it’s the voice of a generation and it’s the voice of American history so yes, I believe that imperfection creates beautiful things and it actually gives way to progress so that people should be less concerned with being perfect and more concerned with being themselves. That’s how I fucking roll.” - Dave Grohl
Life like art ...is not meant to be safe.
There is strength and power in controversy, , in the unexpected , in the ambiguous , in the fractured, broken and undefined…
It's a journey, it’s OK to start in safe areas but like life … the biggest stories lie in the deepest waters...
How does this relate to photography sessions?
It is in the in between that the imperfections and unexpected are often seen and photography .. has the unique ability to freeze these small but powerful moments , allowing us to reflect on and see our lives in new ways and from a different perspective.
Longer photography sessions , especially those in familiar environments where we are filled with most energy and are the happiest that hold the space for you to bring your whole self …and fall apart in .
it is in the pulling back the curtains … the real and the best stories are told.
